Experimental Procedure
The experimental work will be carried out using an Instron 600 LX test machine and oven. This test machine allows the samples to be contained within a controlled-temperature environment during testing. It also allows for temperature, load and displacement readings to be taken. Further displacement measurements will be carried out using Digital Image Correlation (DIC). The specimens represent two steel tubes, bonded by epoxy adhesive end to end. They will be tested in a torsional arrangement using a testing rig designed specially for this experiment. The rig allows us to place the adhesive in uniform torsion. Diagram of the arrangement is shown below.

Set 1 - Transient Temperature Test
Set 2 - Steady-state Temperature Test
Set 3 - Creep Test

After Testing
- After failure stop the load apparatus and reduce temperature
- Take pictures of failure
- Disassemble test rig and remove from test machine
- Dispose of tested material and clean up the laboratory
- Place unused test specimens and other equipment neatly on the designated shelf in the lab
- Collate all the data for defining temperature-dependant material properties in FE model
